Matthew Ming (born Matthew M. K. Meng; April 19, 1992) is an aspiring politician in Malaysia and will most likely be running for President/Prime Minister in future. He is fondly known as “Matt” by his close friends and sometimes, “Matthew Perizkova”. Presently, he is a student of Subang Utama High School and is the current Deputy Head of Discipline I in his school. He was inaugurated as a member of the Prefectorial Board on August 8, 2008. His term is scheduled to end on August 2009.

Early life

Matthew campaigning for Head Prefect

Matthew was born in Assunta Hospital in the metropolis of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on April 19, 1992. He was raised in Subang Jaya situated in the state of Selangor. He is the only child in his family. By ethnicity, he is a Chinese Malaysian. However, he is not able to converse fluently in Chinese. Matthew attended Sri Kuala Lumpur Elementary School, one of the most prestigious private schools in the district. After he graduated elementary school, he shifted to Subang Utama High School.

When he was a freshman, he volunteered as school prefect and later ran for Head Prefect. His bid to lead the junior Prefectorial Board was unsuccessful but he was instead elected to be the vice. In his sophomore year, he ran for Head Prefect for the second time but lost the race. Despite eventual defeat, he was elected as the Deputy Head of Discipline I.

Theory of Constraints for Education

In 2006, Matthew participated in a project called the “100 clouds project”. The objective of this 100 clouds project, carried out by Mdm. Khaw Choon Ean, Theory of Constraints for Education director of Asia is to disseminate the logic based on thinking tools and common methodologies of Theory of Constrains to the students in Malaysia.

Matthew’s hard work and excellent performance in the project has earned him a ticket to Mexico to attend the 9th International TOC For Education conference. He was one of the six young ambassadors of Malaysia to the conference. The conference was held from September 7th to September 10th, 2006.

There he met Dr. Eliyahu M. Goldratt, founder of the Theory of Constraints (TOC) and author of Critical Chain.

Matthew has appeared in an article on the conference in The Star, a local newspaper.

Politics

At a very young age, Matthew was very keen about politics. He always believes that, someday, he’ll sit at the desk of the Perdana Putra as the President/Prime Minister and Head of Government of his country, Malaysia. He also strongly believes that everyone- Malays and Indians, Chinese and the aboriginal people- stand an equal chance to be whatever they wish to become- including being the Prime Minister of Malaysia!

Matthew has drafted out three manifestos. He has always emphasized on racial unity in his presidential speeches which he constantly annoys his classmates with each and every day. He believes that there is still racial discrimination and segregation amongst the people of Malaysia, most of the time, often unconscious by many. He will, with all his power, try to redefine multiracial unity in Malaysia. It all started when he was still in school when he noticed that many of his schoolmates were in cliques easily differentiated by race and skin color.

Matthew is neither a supporter of the National Front or the People’s Pack because he thinks that the highly publicized “war” between the two major political coalitions brings no benefit to the country and the country leaders should focus on the development of the country rather than accusing one another. Matthew sees the potential in Malaysia as a global superpower. He said that Malaysia is progressing but progressing very slowly. With the pace Malaysia is going on right now, Malaysia will easily fall at the bottom of the pack. He believes that if everyone is more responsible and open-minded and a little less conservative, it is possible for Malaysia to be a global force.

His last manifesto is to improve the education system in Malaysia. As a student and a school prefect, Matthew is upset and dissatisfied with the current education system in Malaysia. Cases of smoking and truancy among the youth these days are not tackled efficiently and effectively. And among those who suffer are the poor responsible prefects and students who want to study. About the issue to teach science and math from English to Malay language, he sees the authorities in charged as indecisive and irresolute. Should this continue, he feels that Malaysia will not be able to move forward.

Community service

Since 8th grade, Matthew serves as a member of the Interact Club. The Interact Club sponsored by the Rotary Club is a non-profitable and self-governing organization for teenagers. The main duty of an Interactor is to serve the community by organizing fund-raising events.

Matthew is also a proud Red Cross member. The Red Cross Society is a humanitarian organization that provides emergency assistance to those in need. He was the marching squad Commander of the year 2008. The Red Cross Society of Subang Utama High School failed to place in the Top 5 list at the school’s 19th Annual Sports Day in MPSJ stadium last April.
