Anyway, a big thank you to Nadzlin, Chooi Mei, Wan Jun, Farhana and etc. for your New Year messages you sent to me, though you guys did not make it to the top-10-early-birds list; but that doesn’t matter. And thanks to Michael (US), Richie (Spain) and Jen (US) for the comments you posted in my blog earlier today.

And of course, do often drop by my blog. Remember to leave a comment!

So who/which is your favorite artist/band/movie of the year?

Is it a disadvantage for Malaysian Chinese who don’t know Chinese language?

There are many Chinese dialects spoken in Malaysia- i.e: Mandarin, Cantonese, Hokkein, Hakka, Hainanese, Teo Chiew and etc.

I come from a Chinese background where my family do speak good Chinese. My dad and mum are really fluent in speaking Cantonese. And most of my schoolmates are real good in Mandarin.

You can say that I am the “odd” one among the bunch of Chinese people.

I understand some Mandarin and Cantonese, but just pronouncing it- I am so not good at it. I always have that English slang whenever I speak in Chinese.

It’s really hard for me to not know how to speak Chinese. For instance, communicating with my grandmother is kinda difficult ’cause she speaks Mandarin but not English. Vise versa, I do speak in English but not Mandarin. So usually whenever she says something to me, I would just nod or shake my freaking head- like a dummy. =/

Not only I do not speak fluently in Chinese, I don’t even know how to hold the chopstick!

Every time when I eat in a Chinese restaurant, I would always tell the waiter/waitress:

“Chi Kang Cha, em koi”
Fork and spoon, please

Yes, I know I am an embarrassment to Chinese community. Peace out yea. =D

I’ve just watched the movie “Eragon” today. I know, I know- this movie has been out in the cinemas few weeks ago. But, better late than never right? =D

Hmm… the movie was decent. Not bad actually.

Most people who read the book kinda said the movie sucks. I haven’t…

so….

I am not gonna comment much on this movie.

Overall, not bad. I’d give a 7.9/10 rating for this movie.

An earthquake in southern Taiwan on Tuesday night damaged an undersea optic cable, causing serious disruptions to international phone lines and Internet connections in Korea, Taiwan, China, Japan and Southeast Asia.

The earthquake estimated at 7.1 magnitude by the U.S. Geological Survey shook the ocean floor 23 km southwest of Hengchun, southern Taiwan at 9:26 p.m. on Tuesday. At least six undersea optic cables connecting Korea, China and Japan, Hong Kong and Macau, and mainland China, Hong Kong, the U.S. and Europe were cut off, causing communications interruptions on Wednesday.

Taiwan was the worst affected. Chunghwa Telecom said 60 percent of the phone lines to the U.S. were cut off and 98 percent of communication linking Taiwan with Malaysia and Singapore suffered disruptions. The company forecast it will take two to three weeks for the nation to completely repair the damaged cables. The earthquake also disrupted 1,400 phone lines and 84 international phone lines of Japanese telecom firm NTT, making it impossible to call Southeast Asia from Japan.

In China, the earthquake temporarily blocked access to major foreign websites and caused partial disruptions to phone calls to Taiwan and Hong Kong. Korea Telecom said a total of 9,985 communications lines were damaged including 9,871 ordinary call lines, 92 dedicated lines and 33 Internet lines as six undersea cables connecting Korea and Taiwan were damaged. Citibank Korea and domestic offices of HSBC and Bank of America, whose servers are located overseas, had to stop ATM and online banking services.

EVERYONE SAY….. BOO!!

1. NEW YORK

[>>>] I am just a 14-year-old Malaysian kid who loves “berangan-anganing” (dreaming). Nyahahaha. Yeap, that’s me- the guy with big dreams ;-) Anyway, which are your favorite American states?

As most of you knew, I spent my Christmas holiday on a vacation in Genting Highlands. For those of you who don’t know where Genting Highlands is- it’s situated in the state of Pahang, Malaysia. It can be reached in over an hour by car from Kuala Lumpur (the capital of Malaysia & also where I am living right now) to Genting Highlands. Genting Highlands is most famous for its theme park and also casino (unfortunately, I am underage to enter the casino *boo*)

This time, I went with my family and my dad’s friends’ family. Most of you (especially readers from Malaysia) may find this entry a little bit boring- but just bare with it. I’ll try shortening the amount of words and post more pictures instead.

DAY 1

[>>>] I sat the gondola up to the Genting hills.
[>>>] My apartment.

[>>>] The view from my bedroom’s window. It’s a bit foggy. Genting is situated 2000m above sea level- so that explained why its so foggy up there. Breathtaking, isn’t it?

[>>>] My friends and I played Monopoly in the apartment. While most of them had built plenty of houses and hotels and earned thousands of dollars, I on the other hand, had just 1 dollar left, with no houses whatsoever. In the end, I was bankrupt. *boo*

[>>>] The guys played PlayStation. Thats me in the picture! xD

[>>>] Later at night, we hung out at the First World mall/plaza. There was a Christmas countdown there.

DAY 2

[>>>] The First World Hotel- just nearby the Genting Theme Park.

[>>>] Flying Dragon!! – one of the rides there.

[>>>] Thats me looking nervous….

[>>>] ….And then I was shot up to the peak of the tower. Caution: This ride is not for the weak- hearted!!

[>>>] This is the “Flying Coaster”. My first time on this ride. It was pretty cool actually.

[>>>] This roller coaster is called the “Corkscrew”. Somehow, it reminded me of the movie “Final Destination III”.

[>>>] Me and Claire cam whoring before the roller coaster took off.

At night….

[>>>] A theme park wouldn’t be complete without a Ferris wheel.

[>>>] We sat on the roller coaster again….

[>>>] This is one of the proudest thing I’ve ever done in my life; sitting the “Space Shot” at night! You’ld probably freeze up there, I warn you.

[>>>] And lastly- Go-kart.

[>>>] Rest in peace Mr. Spectacle. My specs broke into half on the 25th of December in Genting. Am I sad? Of course not! In fact, I’ve been waiting for this moment- I’ve always wanted a new pair of glasses =D

Summary::
It’s something different for me ’cause I have not spend my Christmas holiday in Genting Highlands before. Overall, I had a blast there. The weather was simply nice and cooling! As you guys know, most parts of Malaysia are very hot and humid where the temperature is always above 30ºc. However in Genting, it’s usually less than 25ºc. Hence, it kinda gave me the “winter” feeling. It’s even fun when I got to go with my friends- less boring.

So people out there who haven’t visited Genting Highlands whether you are a Malaysian or not, please do come to Genting- you’ll have loads of fun there. It’s a guarantee.

P/S: All pictures are taken by me- I didn’t get them via the internet!

Hey there people all over the world,

I bet all of you just can’t wait for Christmas. I will be on a vacation during Christmas. Therefore, I would not be able to post a Christmas shout out in my blog tomorrow.

So,
Here’s an early Christmas dedication from me…

Sadly, there’s no snow in Malaysia. =(

Sincerely from,
Matthew.

Dear Alya,
Remember I told you I wanted to give you a surprise… well here you go!

HAPPY SWEET 14

[>>>] The chic on the left is Alya whereas the one on the right is… uhh…. me =)
Although I am 8 months and 6 days elder than you, deep down in me, I still do think I look younger and hotter than you. Speak to the hand, babe!! Ahahaha!

Okay okay.. time for serious business.

I hope you’ll have a great life ahead. Enjoy your second year being a teenager, man!! And may our friendship stay strong (Its kinda rocky right now if you didn’t realize) Oh yea, the most important thing, hope you manage to get that guy you had a crush on (I know it Alya, don’t deny)

Don’t you love this entry? Hope you don’t expect much on your “surprise”. Well, at least this is the best birthday shout out I posted here in my blog =P

Your’s truly,
Matthew.

P.S: Alya will be turning 14 on the 25th of December. Unfortunately I will be off for my vacation at that time. So I am posting this a day earlier.
